Bayberry - Myrica cerifera

An excellent astringent useful in treating Dysentery and Diarrhea. It has been used as a gargle for sore throats, a douche for Leukorrhea, and for Mucous Colitis.

Bee's Wax

A substance obtained form the honeycombs of Bees. Useful in the preparation of ointments and salves.

Beet Root - Beta Vulgaris

Believed to contain an active substance which exhibits tumor -inhibiting (cancerous) capabilities. For the present, no clue has yet been found as to the exact nature of this substance.

Birch - Betula Alba

Considered a bitter and astringent. A mouthwash has been prepared from Birch leaves. Birch tar oil is used in ointments for Eczema and Psoriasis. Recent studies of Birch have indicated that Betulinic acid (Found in the bark) is effective in the treatment of Melanoma.

Black Cohosh - Cimicifuga racemosa

An effective and powerful relaxant. Used in the treatment of Osteo-Arthritis, rheumatic pains, muscular pain, neurological pains and neuralgias. It has also been used to relieve menstrual cramps and normalize menstruation.

Black Walnut - Juglans Nigra

A mild laxative and useful treatment for skin disorders such as Herpes and Eczema. It has also been used as a folk remedy for expelling worms and as an antifungal for conditions such as Candida.

Blessed Thistle - Cuicus benedictus

Effectively used as a treatment for painful menstruation and associated headache. It is a stimulator of menstruation and a promoter of breast milk production. When combined with other herbs it has been known to help digestion by stimulating gastric secretions.

Blood Root - Sanguinaria canadensis

It has been used historically in numerous topical preparations for the treatment of various skin cancers. It has also been used internally in herbal preparations for congestive lung conditions such as Emphysema and Chronic Bronchitis.

Blue Vervain - Verbena hastata

Effective nervous system tonic and sedative. Very useful in the treatment of Depression, tension, seizures and hysteria. Because it is a moderate promoter of perspiration, it is helpful for treating fevers. Folk remedies have also used this herb for the treatment of gallbladder inflammation and Jaundice.

Boneset - Eupatorium perfoliatum

It has been used for many years to help relive the aches and pains associated with Influenza. It is also helpful in clearing mucous congestion from the upper respiratory tract.

Boron - Ultratrace Mineral

Necessary to help build and maintain healthy bones and cell membranes. Absolutely critical for normal cell function as well as certain enzyme reactions.

Brazilian Guarana - Paullinia cupana

A strong stimulant and astringent. Frequently used in preparations for increasing stamina and physical endurance. The effects of this herb are mainly due to its caffeine content.

Bromelain

A proteolytic enzyme isolated from the pineapple plant. It promotes fibrinolysis by activating the production of Plasmin from plasminogen. Bromelain selectively stimulates the production of anti-inflammatory Prostaglandin E, and is also helpful in reducing edema.

Buchu Leaf - Barosma betulina

Useful as a diuretic and antiseptic for the urinary tract. It has been used historically to heal and soothe infections of the genitourinary system such as Urethritis, Cystitis and Prostatitis.

Buckthorn - Rhamnus cathartic

A strong cathartic and stimulant causing bowel movements. It is mostly used as a laxative.

Bugleweed - Lycopus virginica

An effective nervine which also has been used for treating overactive thyroid glands. It is additionally useful for calming palpitations and coughs that are of a nervous origin.

Burdock Root - Arctium lappa

Generally used for treating dry and scaly skin disorders such as Dandruff, Eczema, and Psoriasis when caused by a systemic imbalance. It is also used for the treatment of digestive and appetite disorders including Anorexia Nervosa as it stimulates bile secretion and digestive juices. Folk remedies have used this herb to aid Liver function and heal Cystitis.

Butternut - Juglans cinerea

Butternut is a mild cathartic and does not constipate. It is for this reason that it is frequently used as a habitual laxative. It has been used historically for the treatment of Dysentery and hypatic conditions and as a general vermifuge.

Camphor Oil

Historically used as a topical anti-infective and antipruritic. Frequently used in Aroma Therapy formulations and as a preservative in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.

Cascara Sagrada - Rhamnus purshiana

An excellent laxative used in treating chronic constipation. It promotes peristalsis and tones relaxed muscles of the digestive system.

Catnip Herb - Nepeta catavia

A promoter of moderate perspiration, this herb is helpful in treating Influenza, fevers, colds and acute Chronic Bronchitis. Since it is antispasmodic it is commonly used to treat dyspepsia, flatulence, Colic and stomach upsets. Folk remedies frequently use this herb for treating Diarrhea in children and as a mild sedative.

Cayenne - Capsicum frutescens

The herb has a general effect on the heart, stomach, kidneys and circulation. It stimulates the entire body thereby assisting the process of healing. It has been successfully used to help regulate blood pressure and is frequently employed to stop bleeding both internally and externally. Folk remedies have used this herb to treat Influenza, colds, strokes, headaches, indigestion, Depression, Arthritis, ulcers and to help stop heart attacks. When Cayenne is used in herbal compounds, its presence assures the expedient delivery of the other active principles to the vital systems of the body. Cayenne, itself, contains important nutrients including alpha- Tocopherals, Vitamin C and minerals.

Chamomile - Matricaria chamomilla

An effective nervine that tones and relaxes the central nervous system. It has also been used for treating digestive disorders such as Colic, flatulence and ulcers produced by anxiety or stress. This herb can be additionally used as an anti-catarrhal, mild anti- microbial or a sleeping aid. It is considered safe for children and may be used to treat teething pain or nervousness.

Chaparral - Larrea tridentata

Historically this herb has been used internally to sedate inflammation of the intestinal and respiratory tracts as well as for its antibacterial properties. However, recent controversy about its toxicology has partially limited its usage to externally applied compounds. It is still considered however , one of the best herbal antibiotics known.

Chickweed - Stellaria media

Used for treating wounds, cuts, eczema type irritations and itching. It has been used internally for the treatment of Rheumatism.

Chicory - Cichorium intybus

Used as a tonic, diuretic and laxative. The roasted root is sometimes used in coffee mixtures or substitutes.

Chromium Picolinate

A trivalent Chromium, it is patented by the United States Department of Agriculture. Clinical studies have established that it has an insulin stimulating and binding action. This action has produced a 44 % differential lean muscle mass gain over placebo groups. At the same time body fat decreased 23 % versus 7 %. This material is frequently used as an ingredient in weight loss preparations.

Cinnamon - Cinnamomum zeylanicum

Considered a useful carminative for the removal of gastrointestinal gas. It is considered an effective digestive aid and has also been used in fo1k remedies as a styptic for conditions such as uterine hemorrhage.

Citrus Bioflavonoids

Brightly colored chemical constituents of pulp and rind of citrus fruits. Bioflavonoids are believed to increase the effectiveness of Vitamin C and help treat various bleeding disorders such as capillary fragility, nosebleed, unusual bleeding and menstrual disorders.

Comfry - Symphytum officinalis

Cornsilk - Zea mays

An excellent-demulcent and diuretic. It is commonly used for the treatment of urinary tract disorders such as Urethritis, Cystitis, and Prostatitis. The diuretic properties of this herb make it ideal for the treatment of all edematous conditions.

Cramp Bark - Viburnum opulus

One of the best antispasmodics for women. It relaxes muscular cramps particularly uterine and ovarian. Cramp Bark will relieve menstrual cramps and can help in threatened miscarriage. Because this herb is also astringent it can be used to treat excessive menstrual blood loss.

Curcumin - Curcuma longa

This herb is the yellow pigment of Turmeric. It has demonstrated choleretic effects which supports its historical use in treating liver and gallbladder disorders. Curcumin has also been shown to aid in the lowering of cholesterol levels.
