Alternative or Naturopathic medicine has rapidly been gaining in popularity and usage. Galanga - Alpinia officinarum

Used as a carminative, stimulant and for dyspepsia. A paste containing Blood Root and Galanga has been used historically to treat skin Cancer .

Garcinia (Citrin) - Garcinia cambogia

Historically used in India for edema, delayed menstruation, constipation and intestinal parasites. Currently being used in the United States as a component of weight loss formulas because of its remarkable weight loss-inducing properties. Garcinia slows down the enzyme process that is responsible for producing fat in body cells. As a result, the process of thermogenesis is accelerated.

Garlic - Allium sativum

A very effective antimicrobial with excellent antibacterial and antiviral properties. It is used for Chronic Bronchitis, respiratory infections, recurrent colds, Respiratory Catarrh, digestive infections, and Influenza. It is used as both a treatment and preventative for these disorders. Other uses of this herb include the lowering of blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels and a cardiovascular tonic.

Gentian - Gentiana lutea

Historically used for the treatment of sluggish digestion, loss of appetite and Dyspepsia. Believed to help promote the production of gastric juices, saliva and bile.

Ginger - Zingiber officinalis

The herb is a stimulant of periphoral circulation and is commonly used to treat poor circulation, cramps, and chilblains. It has been used for centuries as a promoter of perspiration in fever treatment as wen as for sore throats, digestive problems, and nausea.

Ginko - Ginko biloba

Reported to have a powerful effect on cerebral blood circulation and on brain function. It can be used on a variety of vascular conditions such as Tinnitus, vertigo, neurological problems, Alzheimer's, concentration and memory problems and diminished intellectual capacity due to poor circulation. It has also been used for post stroke therapy and complications resulting from cranial injuries.

Ginseng Root, Siberian - Elentherococcus

It has been used to increase vitality and resistance to damaging external environmental factors as well as illnesses. It has been known to help reduce the incidence of acute respiratory disease, Influenza, Hypertension and ischemic heart disease. Ginseng is hailed as being one of the best general tonics for the body.

Glutamine

The most abundant amino acid found in the body. It has been shown to help build the immune system and to treat stomach ulcers, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and liver disorders. It has also been used to help ease the effects of degenerative diseases associated with aging and for emotional disorders such as stress, anger, fatigue and Depression.

Goldenseal - Hydranstis candensis

Considered to be a powerful antimicrobial for catarrhal conditions, particularly those of the sinuses. Also helpful in treating all digestive disorders such as Colitis and peptic ulcers due to its tonic effects on the mucous membranes.

Gotu Kola - Centella asiatica

Primarily used as a stimulant for the central nervous system. It is commonly used to help fight fatigue and improve memory. Recent studies have indicated a use for this herb in reducing Phlebitis and Varicose Veins.

Green Tea - Camellia sinensis

Contains one to five percent Caffeine and has been used to treat such conditions as Migraines, Infections, Atherosclerosis, Dental Plaque and reduce the risk of Cancer and Heart Disease.


Hawthorn Berry - Crategnus oxyacantha

Frequently used for the treatment of various cardiovascular conditions such as heart diseases, feeble heart, pulse irregularities, valvular insufficiency, enlarged heart, Angina Pectoris and arteriosclerosis. It has also been hailed as an effective treatment of insomnia. Other uses include blood pressure regulation (either high or low), nervousness, Hypoglycemia and breathing problems associated with heart conditions.

Hibiscus (Roselle) - Hibiscus sabdariffa

Leaves are commonly used in Egypt for nerve and heart disorders. In Europe, the flowers have been traditionally used to treat colds, upper respiratory congestion, loss of appetite, circulatory impairment and as a mild laxative and diuretic.

Hops - Humulus lupulus

Historically used to relax the central nervous system and as a treatment for insomnia, anxiety, tension and stress. Caution should be used in using Hops where marked depression is evident, as the depression may be accentuated by the herb.

Horehound Herb - Marrubium vulgare

Traditionally used as an expectorant to promote mucous production. It has been used to help treat Bronchitis, colds, Whooping Cough and upper respiratory ailments.

Hydrangea Root - Hydrangea spp.

Very useful in treating urinary problems such as painful kidney stones associate with urinary infections, and enlarged or inflamed prostate glands. Considered to be a sedative in urinary irritations.

Hyssop Flower - Hyssopus officinalis

Functions as both an antispasmodic and nervine. Useful in treating Bronchitis, chronic catarrh and coughs. Also used to treat hysteria, anxiety and petit mal seizures.
